Diederik-Jan specializes in various areas of international trade law. He provides guidance to clients on sanction risks related to financial products, and on the legality of cross-border transactions, leveraging his background in international public law. Moreover, Diederik-Jan has experience in drafting and enhancing internal compliance programmes and aiding in license applications for international trade in strategic goods.

Prior to joining Agorax, Diederik-Jan gained experience within various financial institutions. In these roles, he was part of teams that served as the global expertise function, providing legal advice on all matters related to sanctions and export controls.

Diederik-Jan earned his bachelor's degree in law, focusing on international and European law, from the University of Tilburg. In 2019, he completed his master's degree in international law and global governance at the same institution. His thesis addressed the topic of individual criminal responsibility in relation to the actions of Autonomous Weapons Systems.
